Modern literature covers sooo many more topics than many of the previous literary periods. Civil rights, Voting, Segregation, Women's roles, and social commentary and satire. Women are writing more and more and they are not being shunned from society or looked down upon as in early times.
I've read:
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
Animal Farm by Geroge Orwell
Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Eliot
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner
Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams
The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Long Days Journey Into Night by Eugene O'Neill
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
